Warped guitars, groove-bodied bass, hypnotic drums and emphatic dual vocals collectively spanning a layered cinematic soundscape – this is the majestic sound of The Sundowners. Made up of Niamh Rowe (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Fiona Skelly (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Alfie Skelly (Lead Guitar), Tim Cunningham (Bass) and Jim Sharrock (Drums) the Liverpool quintet are all set to announce details of their second album, the keenly anticipated follow-up to their lauded self-titled debut, appearing on Skeleton Key Records.
Following a busy 18 months touring in support of debut album Sundowners – spanning a UK tour, dates alongside The Coral and festival performances at Isle of Wight Festival, Festival No.6 and Liverpool Sound City adding to a festival résumé that already boasted an impressive Glastonbury set to a packed tent in 2013, The Sundowners reconvened at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios at various points throughout 2016 to build, experiment and ultimately polish album two.
Working alongside debut album production team James Skelly and Rich Turvey (The Coral, Blossoms, She Drew The Gun) and added influences and production from Andy Votel. Inspired by an eclectic range of sounds and wide- ranging record collections the fivesome are constantly honing and evolving their sound with refreshing innovative touches from driving riffs and cinematic sequences to swirling organs and stellar harmonies from the ethereal voices of Skelly and Rowe. All beautifully showcased in new lead single ‘Great Beauty’, which received radio play from BBC 6 Music and Radio X upon release and was labelled “utterly majestic” by This Feeling.
