SJM Concerts Presents MORGAN Plus Support

Today (16th August) The supremely talented 23-year-old singer-songwriter Morgan gets ready for the Notting Hill Carnival celebrations with her electrifying new single ‘Bum Bum’, her first release on Red Bull Records.

‘Bum Bum’ signifies a bold new chapter in Morgan’s musical evolution, blending nostalgia with contemporary artistry. Produced by Serban Cazan (Rita Ora, Rag’N’Bone Man), ‘Bum Bum’ pays tribute to Morgan’s Jamaican heritage by paying homage to the iconic Sister Nancy ‘Bam Bam’ vocal, and harnesses an infectious dancehall-infused production in tandem with Morgan’s distinctive vocal flair, as she explores themes of feminine empowerment.

Inspired by childhood memories of her father playing ‘Bam Bam,’ the accompanying music video see’s Morgan breathe new life into the classic sample, capturing the essence of Jamaican culture in vibrant fashion ahead of this month’s Notting Hill Carnival celebrations. Shot by renowned filmmaker Kassandra Powell on Dalston’s Ridley Road Market, the visual depicts a
hot and steamy summers day with Morgan front and centre, as she, alongside her crew, celebrate the culture by heading to a bar where Morgan encounters a love interest and showcases her scintillating choreography skills as the temperature rises.

Discussing the making of ‘Bum Bum’, Morgan says:

“Bum Bum is essentially a nod to my Jamaican heritage – a lot of which you will hear in the music I am going to be sharing with you in this next part of my musical journey. It seemed like a no-brainer to incorporate an iconic sample into my songwriting recently; and who doesn’t love Sister Nancy’s ‘Bam Bam’. I wrote this one with two of my closest writing partners – Serban Cazan & Taneisha Jaxxon – and I couldn’t have chosen anyone else to write this with. Be ready guys… I’m back.”

Morgan will embark on a tour this November, headlining five shows across the UK, including a date at London’s iconic Jazz Cafe. The tour dates are as follows:

November 25: Glasgow @ the Poetry Club
November 26: Manchester @ YES
November 28: London @ Jazz Café
November 30: Birmingham @ The Sunflower Lounge
December 1: Bristol @ The Louisiana

Born to a Jamaican father and Jewish mother, she struggled as a child “with being too Black for my white friends, too white for my Black friends.” This push and pull is something she’s owned through her releases, from the sparkling pop of debut EP ‘Alien’, to the runaway success of the dancehall-infused ‘ADCT’ and the dance hits she’s created writing for other artists such as Rudimental, Sigma and Purple Disco Machine. Now with hit collaborations to her name with Rudimental – a group she became synonymous with, having signed to their label and joining on their world tours – Digga D, Purple Disco Machine, Sonny Fodera, Sigma, Ebenezer and Jevon, as well as combined streams of over 80 million leading to a dedicated online following, Morgan is doing things her way, and it’s working. Freshly signed to Red Bull Records, the first taste of this new chapter from Morgan is ‘Bum Bum’ – and there’s a lot more to come.
