James McVey
When you’re a founding member of one of the UK’s biggest bands, how do you assert your own, unique voice? In the case of James McVey, lead guitarist and song writer for The Vamps, it’s by writing and producing some of the most personal and beautiful songs of your career, with a sound like nothing people have heard from him before.
James is a singer-songwriter highly attuned to expressing introspective emotions. In a sound that echoes his appreciation of Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Dermot Kennedy, James has opened his emotions to unveil heartfelt truths about love, mental health and more.
James’ 2023 debut solo EP ‘Manabi’ -a Japanese word that translates to “learning from study” -is indicative of the process that James underwent while writing and recording it’s six songs. The project started when James was in recovery from career-saving surgery on his vocal chords, and he grew in confidence as the project unfolded, whilst writing and producing the entire EP himself with collaborators including Amy Wadge (Ed Sheeran, Sam Ryder), James Walsh of Starsailor and Alex Stacey (Ella Henderson).
In 2024 James released his follow up EP “LettersHome” and followed this up with a headline UK tour. After selling out a UK tour with The Vamps, he is currently on tour with Henry Moodie, and has sold out two headline shows -in a day- in London and Glasgow to round out 2024.
2023/4 press highlights include BBCNews, Wonderland, Boys By Girls, The Line of Best Fit, Metro, and XS Noize.
“McVey balances big choruses and pop hooks with modest organic production, the songs have a genuine presence and warm atmosphere” – The Line of Best Fit
