2015 was a successful year for Nottingham art-rock outfit Field Studies. Support from Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and John Kennedy of Radio X saw the band make numerous national festival appearances, including a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury and an acclaimed appearance at Y Not Festival (described by BBC Introducing’s Emma Clifford as “spellbinding and incredible to experience”).
In 2016 the young four-piece return with a dark, enveloping new EP, Rainmaking, that sees them hone their atmospheric craft. The long-awaited follow up to their mesmerising debut Celestial sees Field Studies explore more raw, bleak textures – the band self-recorded the EP over a long winter, almost exclusively at night, capturing the eerie environment of their frozen suburban recording space across four haunting tracks.
“Sparse, gossamery soundscapes…combined with gorgeous harmonic singing” – BBC, for Glastonbury Festival
