Psych-garage rock four-piece The Lizards from Birmingham, formed in 2015, drawing their main influence from the ‘60s (think The Velvet Underground, The Beach Boys and Cream). With dreamlike vocal melodies, shimmering wall of guitars, pulsating synths and a pounding rhythm section, their style can be mapped somewhere between Tame Impala, Ty Segall, Ariel Pink and Spiritualized.

The release of 2016’s single, ‘Houdini’, blasted the band into the psych scene, receiving backing from BBC Radio 1, BBC West Midlands and Brum Radio, as well as press:

“‘Houdini’ is where The Lizards’ blend of raw readiness and reverb-drenched detail magnificently mesh – from the off-kilter and slightly occult subject matter to the twisting, propulsive guitar solo that booms straight from a dog-eared speaker”. – Louder Than War

Having shared the stage with the likes of Dream Wife, JAWS, HMLTD, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Paul Cherry, the band looked outwards from the bubbling underground of West Midlands and found success throughout the UK, having appeared at Oxford’s Ritual Union (alongside Peace and TOY) and Nottingham’s Dot to Dot festivals, among others.

Latest single ‘Astroboy’ indicates a slight change in direction, towards more synth-driven, fuzzy psych-pop:

“‘Astroboy’ is a suitably spacey lament about the uncertainty of youth. (…) Imagine the distorted vocals of Wavves, the fidgety psychedelic pomp of King Gizzard and the weed-infused wonder of early MGMT, and you have an irresistible slice of surging rock that will leave you longing for seconds”.Grapevine Birmingham

PSYENCE were formed in Stoke-on-Trent by four lifelong friends who met at school, and, after replacing their original rhythm guitarist and adding keys, became the psycho-morphic quintet they are today.

PSYENCE are Steve “Wedge” Pye (lead vocals and guitar); Jay “Colonel” Bellingham (bass); Joe “Gonzo” Walsh (drums); Ben “Pig” Nixon (keys and synthesizer); and Jamie “Carty” Cartlidge (rhythm guitar and vocals).

“Our debut album is an intense chemical reaction of face-melting riffs and groove-laden tunes,” the band explains, “It’s a product of many years toiling away in backroom venues and countless van-hours. It’s a working man’s release. Tune in. Drop out!”

In crafting the album, PSYENCE have re-worked many of their original recordings and live favourites, co-producing the album with local music producer Sam Bloor and then enlisting London based Santi Arribas (Gang of Four, Hotei) to mix and apply the final sonic polish, to create a psyphoric outbust of happiness aimed squarely at the hearts of their many, devoted fans.

Liquid Cheeks is the love child of Gregory Clarke and Ben Gibbs. After playing in bands across Birmingham for the best part of a decade, Liquid Cheeks came to life in July 2018. With two tracks released that were recorded in their kitchen, Liquid Cheeks played their first live show in September 2018 to a sold-out Birmingham crowd.
